This Notice covers all content on PickinRocket.ca that references firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, hunting, fishing, trapping, or any activity governed by Canadian federal or Alberta provincial law. By reading any such content, you agree to the following terms.

1. Informational use only — not advice

All content on this site, including gear reviews, regulation summaries, field reports, technique discussions, and reader Q&A, is provided for general informational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes:

  • Legal advice on firearms ownership, possession, transport, storage, sale, modification, or use

If you need any of the above, consult a qualified, licensed professional in your jurisdiction.

2. Compliance with the law is YOUR responsibility

You alone are responsible for ensuring that any action you take based on content from this site complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to:

  • The Canadian Firearms Act and Criminal Code of Canada provisions on firearms
  • The federal Migratory Birds Convention Act and Migratory Birds Regulations
  • The federal Species at Risk Act
  • Alberta’s Wildlife Act, Wildlife Regulation, and current Alberta Hunting Regulations
  • Alberta’s Fisheries (Alberta) Act and current Alberta Sportfishing Regulations
  • Municipal, First Nations, and Métis Settlement bylaws and regulations
  • Land access laws, including private-land permission and Crown-land use rules
  • All licence, tag, and reporting requirements applicable to your activity

Regulations change frequently. Always verify current rules with alberta.ca/hunting, alberta.ca/fishing, and the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program before relying on anything you read here.

3. Firearms licensing

You cannot legally possess or acquire firearms in Canada without a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) or Restricted Possession and Acquisition Licence (RPAL), issued by the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program. To obtain these, you must:

  • Complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and pass the written and practical tests
  • For restricted firearms, also complete the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC)
  • Submit a current application, pay the fees, and pass the eligibility screening

This site cannot and does not substitute for these required courses. We strongly recommend completing them before purchasing any firearm or ammunition.

4. Hunter education

To hunt in Alberta, you generally need:

  • The Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Program certificate (or equivalent), unless you qualify for a specific exemption
  • A valid Wildlife Identification Number (WiN)
  • The appropriate licence(s) and tag(s) for the species, area, and season you intend to hunt

See the current Alberta Hunting Regulations for complete details.

5. Gear reviews and affiliate links

Product reviews on this site describe gear in general terms based on publicly available information, manufacturer specifications, and our own field use where applicable. Nothing in any review constitutes a recommendation that you specifically use that product for any specific purpose. Suitability of any gear depends on your skill level, licensing, jurisdiction, intended quarry, and many other factors we cannot anticipate.
